Heavy fog forces closure of expressways in Beijing

Beijing shut down 13 expressways on Wednesday due to heavy fog in Beijing and surrounding regions, according to transportation authorities.

At 1 pm Wednesday, the air quality index in Beijing was 301, reaching level-six air pollution, the most severe type.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and parts in North China’s Shanxi province and Northwest China’s Shaanxi province are seeing heavy air pollution since Tuesday.
