Datong in North China's Shanxi province lies at the northeastern edge of a loess plateau and is in China’s first group of 24 historical, cultural cities. Datong is famous for its historical sites as well as natural scenery. The eight popular spots in its Yunzhou district attract numerous tourists from all over the world, including volcanoes, the sleeping buddha, Haotian Mountain, the soil forest, Sanggan River, Cailiang Mountain, the Lyu family Mansion and the daylily planting. [Photo by Liu Fuhong and Sun Jinjun/For chinadaily.com.cn]
