Based on a true story about a woman surviving hurricane at sea, the film Adrift has recently hit the North American theaters and is scheduled to be imported to Chinese mainland.

With Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur as the director, Adrift co-stars California-born actress Shailene Woodley and English actor Sam Claflin.

In 1983, engaged couple Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, played by Woodley and Claflin, respectively, set off from Tahiti to sail a yacht to San Diego. Despite both being experienced sailors, they are hit by a record-breaking hurricane out at sea that devastates their boat.

Adapted from the book Red Sky in Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea, the movie documents Oldham's journey after she wakes up to find Sharp seriously injured and how, with scant food and a crippled craft, she battles for survival.

To create a visual feast which not only features the catastrophic storm, but stunning ocean vistas, the movie has been photographed by the three-time Oscar winner and frequent Quentin Tarantino cinematographer, Robert Richardson.

The film is jointly produced by Beijing-based Huayi Brothers Media Corp along with American companies STX Entertainment and Lakeshore Entertainment, and London-based Ingenious Media.
