Ancient Roman relics to be displayed in SW China
The exhibition Pompeii, the Infinite Life featuring ancient Roman relics will open at the Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, from Feb 9 to May 3, 2018.
The cultural treasures to be presented - relics unearthed from the ancient city of Pompeii - are from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city close to modern Naples, Italy, that was obliterated after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 buried the place under 4 to 6 meters of volcanic ash, ending its glorious civilization.
A variety of relics will be shown, including exquisite human statues, marble wash basins, murals depicting gods and goddesses, charred bread and fancy bathtubs.
Many items will be shown to Chinese museumgoers for the first time, spotlighting the achievements of Roman culture and art at its height.
To enable Chinese audiences to fully experience ancient city of Pompeii, the exhibition will feature multimedia displays.
