Liaoning stops losing streak by edging powerhouse Guangdong
BEIJING - Han Dejun's performance in the overtime helped Liaoning to edge Guangdong 92-89, putting an end to its 2-game losing streak in the 19th round action of the 2017-2018 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league Friday evening.
Zhou Peng and Yi Jianlian unleashed three-pointers at the beginning of the match, giving Guangdong a five-point lead over the hosts. Yi, who scored 17 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, had a slam dunk at the end of third quarter and awarded the visitors an eight-point lead and nearly sealed the victory.
However, two international players Lester Hudson and Brandon Bass helped Liaoning to claw back at 82-all and forced the match into the overtime where both sides played defenses before Liaoning took the victory through a series of fast attacks.
Elsewhere, Nick Minnerath and Jimmer Fredette combined for 63 points to help Shanghai take a 118-111 away victory over Qingdao, despite a game-high 45 points by Jonathan Gibson for the home side. Five Shanghai players scored double-digits.
In Friday's other matches, Shenzhen beat Guangzhou 128-117, Shandong edged Tianjin 123-114 at home.
