The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as TEDA, retained its No 1 ranking among national-level development zones on the Chinese mainland in terms of major economic indices in the first half of this year. During this period, the area's industrial output value increased 9.1 percent year-on-year to more than 416.7 billion yuan ($68.05 billion). The figure is expected to reach 900 billion yuan at the end of this year. Since it was founded in 1984, TEDA, which is in Tianjin, a municipality neighboring Beijing in North China, has made substantial progress during the past three decades. Driven by both investment and innovation, the area now focuses on advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.
