I profoundly congratulate China Daily for the launch of China Daily Africa Weekly. The publication of this edition by the most popular Chinese official English-language newspaper is an eloquent testimony of the cordial and excellent relations between Africa and China, which has passed through several stages of evolution.

In view of the phenomenal rise in China’s engagement with Africa, it is my sincere hope that the China Daily Africa Weekly will portray Africa in a good light and reflect a balanced situation on the continent.

Long live China-Africa Relations!

The launch of this publication could not have come at a more opportune time, considering the rapid increase of China’s presence and contribution to the development of the continent of Africa.

The Africa Weekly will present an avenue to showcase to investors, tourists and students, not only from China, but in the global business community, the opportunities that await them in Africa.

HELEN MAMLE KOFI, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to China

China Daily Africa Weekly will enable many in the world to know Africa and China better and from a Chinese perspective, unlike in the past, when any reading material one came across was Western — American or European. And even those American and European publications rarely mentioned Africa and China, and mostly did so when there was an upheaval. It is therefore hoped that Africa Weekly will also allow Africans to speak about themselves so that there will also be an African perspective in the news.

As a Kenyan, I note with great appreciation that the China Daily Africa Weekly has found home in our capital, Nairobi. For this I say once again, thank you China Daily.

SILAS M. KIRAGU, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Kenyan Embassy in China

The launch of the Africa Weekly serves as both an expression and complements the deepening of relationship between China and Africa. It is clear with the growing complexities and dynamism of our world, stronger China-Africa relations will form the basis for future cooperation and development.

C.E. NAMONDWE, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to China

For some time now the ears and eyes of the world have been turned toward Africa and Asia, with China as the main focus of attention. There is no doubt therefore that this publication will provide useful information on what is taking place in these parts of the world and shed light on their interactions.

PAUL CHONG LEUNG, Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to China

We, as developing countries, need to further lay the groundwork for the new phase in the second decade of the existence of the China-Africa Forum in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals that our respective countries aspire to.
