Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States has promoted strategic mutual trust between the two nations, improved friendship between the two peoples, and pointed out the direction for the new model of major-country relations based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

The visit has laid a solid foundation for long-term development of bilateral ties in the future, created more opportunities for achieving China's domestic development goals, and served as an example for establishing a new type of international relations.

During his visit, Xi had interactive communication with Americans of all walks of life, systematically introduced to the US side China's view on peaceful development and the world order, promoted friendship and mutual trust, and explicitly interpreted the fact that cooperation will lead to a win-win situation while conflict will harm both.

Xi and his counterpart, US President Barack Obama, discussed in a straightforward manner issues about which the two nations share grave concerns and those on which differences exist, seeking common grounds while reconciling discrepancies.

One of the highlights of the visit was the private talks between the two top leaders, during which they exchanged ideas concerning internal and external policies of their respective countries, major topics related to bilateral ties and international and regional issues.

The two leaders agreed to correctly treat the strategic objectives of their respective countries, keep enhancing mutual trust, and prevent strategic misunderstanding and misjudgment.

Since Xi and Obama met at Sunnyland, California in 2013, China-US relations have generally gained progress with achievement of fruitful results: Annual bilateral trade has neared 600 billion US dollars; annual high-level talks and military exchanges have been in promotion of extensive and in-depth cooperation; and a streamlined visa policy has enhanced people-to-people exchanges.

The two nations have cooperated with each other closely in the fields of combating terrorism and piracy, responding to climate change, and international peacekeeping, etc. The two countries have played great roles in promoting global economic recovery, reaching agreement on the nuclear issue of Iran, fighting the Ebola epidemic and promoting the peace process in Afghanistan, among others.

Presently, China and the United States are both standing at a historical point, faced with opportunities and challenges. Therefore, it is inevitable for the two countries to hold different points of view and to have differences between them. Yet, their common interests outweigh by far their differences, and cooperation is the mainstream in the bilateral relations.

The visit has resulted in an outcome list with 49 items on it. During the visit, China and the United States reached consensus on the new model of major-country relations between them, bilateral pragmatic cooperation, Asia-Pacific affairs, international and regional issues, global challenges and so on.

These developments have sufficiently proved once again that China and the United States should further convince themselves to enhance cooperation, shoulder responsibilities, and strive for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.

Xi's visit has ushered in a broad prospect for China-US cooperation.
