GAZA - A Palestinian militant was killed and another wounded Friday morning in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip, a medical spokesman said.

An Israeli drone carried out the attack in central Gaza Strip, killing the militant in his 20s and seriously wounding his fellow, according to Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for the health ministry of the de facto Hamas government in Gaza.

Palestinian security sources said the dead was a member of the Salafi group. Meanwhile, Israel said the targeted militants were responsible for firing several missiles into its territories over the past few days.

On Tuesday, a militant was killed and 11 others were injured when two Israeli attacks targeted a motorcycle and a private vehicle in northern Gaza.

The violence came on the third anniversary of Operation Cast Lead, Israel's military offensive in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in late 2008. As many as 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the three-week operation.

Since the end of Cast Lead, Hamas maintained an unofficial ceasefire with Israel, but short waves of violence disrupted the calm from time to time.
