RIYADH/WASHINGTON - Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz has passed away, Saudi and U.S. media reported Saturday.

Both the Saudi news agency SPA and national television confirmed the news, saying the Crown Prince Sultan died of illness.

US broadcaster CNN first reported the death, citing a unidentified US State Department source, without giving much details.

The Crown Prince Sultan was one of the top figures in the kingdom, having served as deputy minister of aviation and defense, it reported.

He had various medical issues in recent years, and have travelled to New York and Morocco for treatments, the report said.
