SANAA - A senior Yemeni official survived an assassination attempt when a bomb went off targeting his car in the capital on Thursday, the ruling party's news website reported.
The government spokesman, Abdual-Janadi, who is also the deputy information minister, survived an assassination attempt after unidentified gunmen detonated a bomb device minutes before he parked his vehicle in front of his house in Sanaa earlier Thursday.
"No one was wounded," he said, adding that "the attempt came after I announced via state media about holding a press conference."
Al-Janadi earlier forwarded the government warning against the opposition coalition's formation of a "national ruling council."
The opposition on Wednesday declared the establishment of "National Council for Peaceful Revolution Council."
Opposition official of Islamic Islah (reform) party Abdulwahab al-Anisy told Xinhua that the opposition coalition Joint Meeting parties (JMP) "did not form a national ruling council, but a National Council for Peaceful Revolution Forces that aims to unify efforts to oust President Ali Abdullah Saleh."
Yemen was in the grip of seven-month-long nation-wide protests demanding wounded President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has been in the Saudi capital since earlier June for treatment following an assassination bomb attack on his palace, to end his 33-year rule.
The veteran leader, however, vowed Tuesday to return to Sanaa "very soon" for resuming his presidential duties until 2013.
