MOSCOW - The disappearing Russian cargo plane crashed Tuesday, killing all the 11 people on board, said local officials.

Regional emergency situations department officers told reporters the An-12 plane, en route from Magadan to Chukotka, disappeared from radars at 07:34 Moscow time (0334 GMT) some 300 km from its take-off point.

The plane carried nine crew members, two passengers and 16 metric tons of food, authorities said, adding that the plane disappeared from radars shortly after reporting a fuel leak and a fire in right engine.

A rescue helicopter and several rescue teams are searching for the plane. An investigation into the accident is underway.
