KIEV - Seventy-four Russian children have been hospitalized with food poisoning symptoms at a Ukrainian summer camp, officials said Wednesday.

As of 7 am local time (0400 GMT), eight children were in slightly weak condition, and the others were stable, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The ministry said the children, two of their supervisors and nine Ukrainian Young Pioneer leaders became sick Tuesday evening after eating poorly prepared food in a summer camp cafeteria in the southern village of Lubimivka, near the city of Sevastopol.

The incident is currently under investigation, the ministry said.

A total of 293 children from Russia joined the summer camp. The young victims, aged from eight to 16, came from Moscow, Yekaterinburg and other major Russian cities.
