The chairman made the statement after meeting with DPRK's ambassador to Indonesia Jong Chun Gun at the parliament building on Thursday.

"North Korea (DPRK) hopes Indonesia could contribute to creating peace on the Korean peninsula," Taufiq was quoted by the Jakarta globe as saying.

"The North Korean (DPRK) ambassador hopes that the conflict between North and South Koreas (the Republic of Korea) could immediately be brought to an end because the conflict could affect Asian countries including Indonesia," said Taufiq.

Taufiq said the ambassador also explained that the nuclear weapons that his country produced was not intended for attacking other countries, but for defending itself from attacks from the ROK and the United States.

In response to the DPRK's request, Taufiq said Indonesia would continue to play a role to help create peace on the Korean peninsula.

"Helping create peace in the world has become Indonesia's commitment mandated by the constitution," he said.
