WELLINGTON - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale has struck off the coast of New Zealand North Island's the Bay of Plenty on Wednesday, causing no damage or casualties.
The quake, occurred at 08:00 am local time (19:00 GMT Tuesday), was centered 80 km north of Whakatane and a a depth of 130 km, the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences reported.
It was likely to have been felt in the East Cape area between Opotiki and Ruatoria.
