YONGON - A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck in the Andaman Sea off Myanmar on Tuesday at 10:24 pm local time (16:54 GMT), the Hydrology and Meteorology Department in Yangon confirmed with Xinhua over phone on Wednesday.
There was no destructive tsunami warning.
The epicentre of the quake was about 400 kilometres southwest of Pathein in Ayeyawaddy division and about 500 kilometres southwest of Yangon, the sources said.
