Mexican army detains 'Los Aztcas' gang leader

MEXICO CITY - The Mexican Army has detained the leader of the gang "Los Aztcas," who was allegedly involved in the murder of three people related to the US Consulate in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua state in the north of Mexico, spokesman of the Operative Chihuahua, Enrique Torres Valadez said on Monday.

Torres told a local radio station that the detention was carried out on March 26 and in coming hours the State General Prosecutor's Office will give more details.

According to the Mexican authorities, Ciudad Juarez, bordering with the United States, has turned into one of the most violent places amid the fights between the drug cartels of Juarez and Sinaloa, which have killed 4,200 people between 2008 and 2009.

On March 13, three people related to the US Consulate of Ciudad Juarez were killed by in a gun fire.

Torres said that the detention of the person was made after the investigation of the Mexican authorities in coordination with the US authorities.

The detention was made in a house, and despite Torres did not give the name of the person, he said he is a 45-year-old man.
