Clash kills 2 Taliban insurgents in west Afghanistan

KABUL - A clash between Taliban and police in west Afghanistan's Farah province left two militants dead and two others injured, police said on Sunday.

The militants stormed a police checkpoint in Pashtrod district late Saturday night and police returned fire, killing two Taliban fighters and injuring two others, according to provincial police chief Faqir Mohammad Askar.

One police officer sustained injuries in the firefight which lasted for a while.

Taliban fighters have vowed to intensify their activities this year in Afghanistan.
