Minor earthquake shakes central Costa Rica

SAN JOSE - A 4.3-magnitude earthquake rocked central Costa Rica late Friday, the country's seismic and volcano monitoring center confirmed. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The tremor was felt in the capital city and lasted a few seconds. Local television reported earlier that a quake jolted the capital area.

The epicenter was located in the eastern part of the capital San Jose, with a depth of 7.5 km underground, Juan Segura, director of the monitoring center, told local television.

He also said there were no reports of aftershocks and appealed to the public to remain calm.
