Jones said he would convey the information to US President Barack Obama, who had requested details on Lula's health condition.
Lula, 64, is now resting at his private residence in Sao Paulo after suffering a bout of hypertension on Wednesday night which forced him to cancel a planned trip to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum annual meeting.
Lula was already abroad his plane but felt "tired and unwell." He was advised to scrap his trip to Davos after his doctor discovered a potential hypertensive problem, said the president's office in a statement.
Lula went through initial checkups on Thursday and was later discharged from hospital. He is due to undergo a series of other examinations in the Heart Institute in Sao Paulo on Saturday.
