COLOMBO: The house of a leading opposition activist came under attack on Friday, just four days ahead of next week's presidential election, police and party officials said.

Officials of the Democratic National Front, the opposition coalition said the house of Tiran Alles, one of its senior men in the Colombo suburb of Nawala came under attack at 4 a.m. local time (2230 GMT) Friday.

No one was hurt, said the police, adding that Alles's house and some vehicles parked in the vicinity caught fire after the attack.

The fire brigade was called in to douse the flames.

Sarath Fonseka, the former Army commander on behalf of the opposition will challenge the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the presidential election to be held on January 26.
