MOSCOW: Russian news agencies say part of a passenger train has derailed between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

It was not immediately clear whether there were casualties.

State-run ITAR-Tass and RIA Novosti cited an unidentified law enforcement official as saying three or four cars went off the tracks in the Tver province, roughly halfway between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Interfax cited an unidentified law enforcement official as saying the derailment occurred in the Novgorod province, closer to St. Petersburg.

There were conflicting reports about which way the train was going.
