Gunmen slaughter 6 in north of Baghdad

Updated: 2009-11-25 21:15 BAGHDAD: Gunmen in military uniforms killed six civilians from one family, including three women, in a town in north of Baghdad on Wednesday, a local police source said.
The attacker left alive a woman and her child, who were relatives of the victims visiting the family when the attack occurred, the source said. Iraqi security forces were investigating the incident while intensifying their presence in the town after the attack, he added. On November 16, a similar deadly attack took place in west of Baghdad, when gunmen disguising in army uniforms stormed the Sunni village of Zauba and conducted a search operation, detaining 13 villagers and executing them just outside the village before fleeing the scene. Despite the drop in violence in the last two years, recent series of attacks have raised concerns about the ability of Iraqi security forces to contain violence ahead of the country's national elections early next year. |
