ISLAMABAD: An earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, jolted most of the upper parts of Pakistan Thursday night, local TV channel reported Friday.

The earthquake rattled most of the areas of eastern Pakistan's Punjab province, North West Frontier Province and northern regions, creating panic and distress among the residents, the private TV ARY News reported.

The shocks, which hit at around 11:44 pm local time (1744 GMT) and lasted near 20 seconds, were felt in the major cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Muzaffarabad, Lahore, Faisalabad and other areas.

The epicenter was monitored in Hindukash mountain range, Pakistan Meteorological Department said.

No property damage or casualties has yet been reported.

A 6.4-magnitude quake jolted major Pakistani cities of Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar on October 23.
