MADRID: Spanish police say a small apartment building has collapsed in Palma on the island of Mallorca, killing at least five people and injuring two.

Police say crews are combing through the rubble of the four-story building in search of survivors or bodies.

The cause of the collapse shortly after midnight Sunday was not known.

National Police spokeswoman Janka Jurkiewicz told The Associated Press from Palma on Monday that islanders have told police there were nine people listed as living in the building. She described the building as old but did not know when it was built.
