Pakistani police arrest dozens of suspects after attacks

ISLAMABAD: Dozens of suspected militants have been arrested during operations of police in main Pakistani cities, according to local TV channel reports Friday.

Officials said that 38 offenders have been arrested and large cache of weapons, police uniforms and walky talky recovered during a raid of police in Sharafi Goth area of Karachi, southern Pakistan 's port city.

Police said that most of the arrested offenders belonged to North West Frontier Province.

Meanwhile, police in eastern Pakistan's Punjab province arrested four alleged terrorists by conducting raids following attacks on offices of law enforcing agencies in Lahore, the capital of Punjab.

Intelligence sources said, police raided a place in Multan, a big city in Punjab, and arrested an expert engineer who prepares jackets used in suicide attacks. The man is allegedly linked with Amjad Farooq Group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab.

Another raid was conducted in Sherakot area of Lahore on the lead provided by the alleged terrorist. As a result, suspected terrorists Sher Rabbani, Hikmatullah and Musa Khan were nabbed.

Musa Khan is said to have come to Lahore from Afghanistan 20 days ago.

Weapons, ball bearings and jihadi literature have been recovered from their possession.

Besides, a number of suspects including a woman have been arrested on charges involvement in the attack on Elite Force Training Center in Lahore Thursday.

A wave of terror attacks have claimed lives of more than 100 people in recent days in Pakistan. The government has beefed up security across the country and is considering an operation against militants in South Waziristan tribal area, part of the lawless regions along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.
