KABUL: Taliban insurgents attacked a convoy of private trucks in the eastern Kunar province, Afghanistan, killing six drivers and set on fire six trucks, Interior Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

"Enemies of Afghanistan attacked a convoy, set fire on six trucks and killed the drivers in Marawora district on Sunday,"the statement said.

All the victims were innocent civilians and another driver was kidnapped by the rebels, it added.

Investigations have been launched on the incident by police forces.

Skirmishes and Taliban-link insurgency, according to latest U.N. report, have claimed the lives of over 1,500 civilians in the first six month of this year, which shows a 24 percent increase compared with the same period of last year.
