ATHENS: A bomb in a car exploded outside the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday, injuring one person and damaging eight cars, Greek police said.

A woman going to work near the building was hit by flying glass from the morning blast, caused by a mechanical device in a car set up outside the Stock Exchange.

The Greek newspaper Eleftherotypia said it received a warning call 40 minutes before the explosion.

"The blast was strong but damage to the building was minor. Eight cars are on fire," said a police official.

A series of bombings and arson attacks have struck Greece since police shot dead a teenager in December. The shooting sparked Greece's worst riots in decades, with left-wing militants and anarchists claiming the government's incapability of protecting its citizens.
