DHAKA: A moderate fire broke out at Bangladesh's biggest shopping complex Basundhara City in the capital city Dhaka late Sunday night, with no casualties reported so far.

This was the second time the 19-story building had caught a fire this year. On March 13, a big fire at the top floors of the complex killed seven people.

Director-general of Fire Service and Civil Defense Brigadier General Abu Nayeem Md Shahidullah told Xinhua early Monday morning that the fire, which originated from a snack shop on the seventh floor of the shopping mall, is now under control.

He said some shops on the seventh floor may have been damaged, and the number of casualties is not available.

The cause of the fire is also unclear, Shahidullah added.

Dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene and battled the blazes.

The Basundhara City complex has two parts. One is an eight- story shopping mall from the ground floor, which accommodates some 2,500 shops and is considered one of the biggest shopping malls in the South Asian region.

Another part of the building, up to the 19th floor, is for office use.
