PARIS: French President Nicolas Sarkozy will send no congratulatory message to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad when he is inaugurated as president of Iran on Wednesday, Sarkozy's office said on Tuesday.

"There is no plan to send any message," an official at the Elysee Palace told Reuters.

Ahmadinejad is due to be sworn in by parliament for a second term on Wednesday following his disputed re-election on June 12, which caused Iran's worst unrest since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Spokesmen for US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have also said those leaders would not congratulate Ahmadinejad.
