AMSTERDAM: A 17 year-old male was the first person in the Netherlands to die of H1N1 influenza, national health authority RIVM said on Tuesday.

The teenager, whose identity was not disclosed, had other serious underlying disorders, the agency said.

The Netherlands, which has a population of 16.6 million, has confirmed 663 H1N1 cases since April. Of those, nine are still hospitalised.
