Zelaya never to be able to return to power

Updated: 2009-08-04 11:00 TEGUCIGALPA: The Honduran interim government said Monday ousted President Manuel Zelaya "will never be able to return to the presidency."
A spokesman from the interim government read a communique saying that "the Honduran former president (Zelaya) will never be able to take the presidency because he has declared failure of the mediation and the negotiated option." The coup-mongers, led by post-coup leader Roberto Micheletti have refused to restore Zelaya in power for his closeness with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his participation in the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas. Zelaya "will never return for a dialogue path as long as he continues threatening with organizing guerrillas in the camps in Nicaragua supported by (Nicaraguan President) Daniel Ortega, Chavez and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia," the interim government added.
Zelaya was forced into exile after a coup on June 28. He had angered the army, the legislative and judiciary by insisting on a constitutional amendment that would allow him to seek re-election. Since then, his demand for reinstatement has been rejected by the post-coup government. On Thursday, Zelaya announced the creation of the People's Army of Pacific Resistance, which began training, education, exercise, and vigilance staged in the same day. |
