Traffic accident kills 6 in Spain

MADRID: At least six people were killed Friday and 72 injured in a multiple traffic accident in San Pol de Mar locality in Barcelona, northeast of Spain.

A spokesman from the civil protection of the regional government from Catalonia said that a bus with Dutch plate, two passenger buses and a truck were involved in the accident.

The Dutch bus had 65 passengers aboard, six of them died, manager from Plenacosta, owner of the Dutch bus, Pere Aratu said.

Aratu said that his driver survived the accident and has got a surgery. The driver, who has worked for the company for 16 years, tested negative for alcohol in the blood, he added.

The bus was two years old and it passed security check, so the authorities are investigating if the accident was related to speed, the Traffic Police from Catalonia said.
