RABAT - A Moroccan magazine says it is being sued for defamation by former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.

The Observateur magazine was among the first media to allege that Aznar was the father of the child of French Justice Minister Rachida Dati. Aznar denied it, and Dati has not disclosed the name of the father of her daughter who was born in January.

The Observateur says it has been summoned by a Moroccan court because of Aznar's complaint in Spain. It can be sued in Morocco according to an agreement between the two countries.

Aznar's thinktank, FAES, confirmed Monday that he has sued the magazine in Spain but did not disclose further details. Aznar, a conservative, headed Spain's government from 1996 to 2004.
