Orphaned wombats find home at wildlife shelter
Photo taken on June 5, 2009 shows Carina(L) and Riley, a pair of orphaned baby wombats at the Warrandyte Wildlife Shelter run by wombat expert Linda Sauvarin. Carina and Riley were rescued after their mothers were killed in road accidents. Carina, who is currently 273 grams and Riley, who is 290 grams, will grow to be between 20-35 kgs. The pair are approximately three months old now and enjoy being fed by Linda with a special formula, six times a day. The pair are kept in a wollen pouch and need to be kept warm using heat pads as they haven't yet grown any fur.The pair will stay with Linda for about two years when they will be released back in to the wild.
