Kodama made the remarks to Xinhua reporter at a working lunch on the sideline of the 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia- Europe Meeting (ASEM).

The nuclear testing is a violation of the United National Security Council resolutions, said Kodama.

Japanese government will request an urgent meeting to the United Nations Security Council to discuss this matter, he said.

Kodama said that Japanese and the Republic of Korean foreign ministers met on Monday morning in Hanoi. The two ministers have reached the consensus that the two countries will work together to seek close coordination from the United States and China to forge a position to respond to the issue.

"The testing conducted by the DPRK is detrimental to the security and safety in not only the northeast Asia, but for the global community, "said Kodama.

Japanese government will respond to the issue in a firm manner, he said.

DPRK has confirmed that it conducted an underground nuclear test earlier on Monday.
