"The court sentenced the captain of the New Star, Indonesian citizen Nazvir Adi, to three months in prison," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted Irina Nomokonova, an aide to the local prosecutor, as saying.

The Sierra Leone-flagged vessel, named New Star, sank off Russia's far eastern port of Vladivostok on February 15 after coming under fire from Russian coast guard vessels.

China attached great importance to the settlement of the incident and has lodged representations to Russia.
