World Water Day, observed every March 22 since 1993, was launched by the United Nations to draw attention to the more than one billion people around the world who are without clean water. This year's World Water Day focuses on the waters that cross borders and link countries together. "Whether we live upstream or downstream," the Web site for Word Water Day 2009 says, "we are all in the same boat."
