CARACAS -- The Venezuelan Navy on Friday detained a light aircraft that entered Venezuelan territory without identification, the military said.

The plane was intercepted by two military planes, and the two people aboard were Colombians, news reports said.

The plane was allegedly related to drug trafficking because it did not have identification and the place where it landed was often used for illegal practices due to its natural flat conditions, said Rear Admiral Rommel Fernandez, commander of the military equipment from Punto Fijo, in the state of Falcon.

Venezuela is known for its strategic location for drug trafficking from Colombia to other countries.

So far this year, Venezuelan authorities have seized 3 tons of drugs, detained 158 people suspected of drug trafficking and confiscated 22 vehicles used to transport drugs.
