Myanmar sets 2009 for running first-phase cyber city housing project

YANGON -- Myanmar has set the year 2009 to run the first phase of the planned high-standard residential housing projects in the Yadanabon Cyber City established in Pyin Oo Lwin, northern Mandalay division, sources with the Mandalay municipal authorities said on Monday.

The first phase of the project lying in the northern part of the city and involving 12 private construction companies has partially started on plots of land allotted, the Mandalay City developemnt Committee (MCDC) said.

With sufficient water available now, implementation of water pipe link, building of roads, supply of electricity and installation of telephone and internet are underway and the first phase of the project is targeted to be completed by the end of this year, it added.

The Yadanabon housing project, carried out by the MCDC, will provide accommodation to local and foreign investors.

There is a total of 496 land plots in the cyber city, of which 170 have been allotted to some private companies, the sources said.

The Yadanabon cyber city, which is the first ever largest ICT park in Myanmar, was established in December 2007.          

As part of the project in the development of the cyber city, Myanmar authorities allotted 372 acres (150 hectares) of land in the soft-base factory area of the Yadanabon cyber city for 35 more local and foreign IT companies to develop their business undertakings.

To encourage investment in the cyber city, the authorities will offer land lease grant for 30 years for the establishment.

The cyber city, which covers an overall area of 10,000 acres (4, 050 hectares), located in the hilly Pyin Oo Lwin near a highway, 67 kilometers east of the second largest city of Mandalay in the north, and 20 percent of the cyber city area produce software and hardware.

The internet of the cyber city not only links with the whole country but also connect neighboring China, Thailand and India.

With the establishment of the cyber city, more and more local and foreign information technology (IT) companies have sought investment in the cyber city for the development of IT business undertakings.
