SYDNEY - Four teenage boys rampaged through a Sydney high school on Monday, smashing part of the canteen and a car with a small ax and a machete before being arrested, police said. No one was injured.

The attack at the Trinity Catholic College in suburban Auburn started around 8 am as students were arriving for classes.

Police said they did not know of a motive for the raid, but that they were looking into reports the attackers were looking for a girl who was a student at the school.

The Catholic Education Office said the attackers were not believed to be students from the school. All students were safe and accounted for.

Police Inspector Darren Cloake said three teens, two of them 16 and the other 15, were arrested in the school playground with a 16-inch (40-centimeter) machete and a tomahawk. A 17-year-old youth was arrested at about the same time outside the school.

The group, who were not named because of their ages, had smashed part of the canteen, a car and several glass-fronted notice boards and pushed one teacher before police arrived, Cloake said.

Police did not immediately say if they would be charged.
