A child wearing a panda costume has his make-up retouched before the start of "Caracol 2009", a local version of the Mardi Gras parade along Makati, the financial district of Manila January 18, 2009. The word "Caracol" was derived from Spanish word "snail, shell" and school children dress up in costumes and compete in a dance-off with choreography loosely based upon ethnic rituals and local folklore.
