300 killed across Thailand in road accidents during New Year

BANGKOK -- The death toll of road accidents throughout Thailand in the first five days of the seven dangerous New Year holidays has reached 300, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department announced Sunday.

The Department's director-general Anucha Mokkhawes said 3,161 road accidents happened from December 30 to Saturday, killing 300 people and injuring 3,396 others.

On Saturday alone, 22 were killed, 400 others injured in 368 road accidents.
