"When I found the car and I saw it had the key in the ignition, well, I just got in," foiled car thief Alejandro Juarez told local media here.

"I was thinking about taking off the tires so I could sell them," he said.

"But then I was thinking first I would take it for a spin -- and then BAM, I got a bit distracted and crashed," Juarez said.

Officer Erika Moncada had stopped her patrol car and left the engine running to respond to a fight when Juarez happened upon the vehicle.

After Juarez' two-hour joyride and surprise stop, police took him into custody.
