More than 3,000 Caribbean students graduate from Cuban universities

Updated: 2008-12-08 10:20 HAVANA -- More than 3,000 Caribbean students have graduated from Cuban universities since 1961, Cuban Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. A total of 3,276 students from Caribbean countries have finished their college studies in Cuba since 1961, with 1,043 of them graduating in medicine, the ministry said. Currently, about 3,000 students from Caribbean countries are studying in Cuba, it said. The ministry also said that some 800 Cuban medical staff currently work in seven countries of the Caribbean Community, as part of the Integral Health Program launched by Cuba. In the last 10 years, the Cuban health staff made some 17 million medical consultations, assisted more than 123,000 births and conducted some 303,000 surgeries in the framework of the program, it said. |
