Japanese gov't to submit 2nd budget to session next year
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-11-25 15:42 TOKYO -- Japanese government and ruling coalition Tuesday confirmed that they will submit a second supplementary budget during a regular Diet session in January rather than in the ongoing extra Diet session, lawmakers from the ruling bloc said. The timing of submitting the extra budget for fiscal 2008 through March 2009 to finance an additional economic stimulus package will be formally announced by Prime Minister Taro Aso later Tuesday. The schedule was endorsed by Aso, his deputies in the administration and senior members of his ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the New Komeito party in an urgent meeting. The LDP will notify the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) of the agreement later Tuesday, the lawmakers said. Last week, DPJ President Ichiro Ozawa urged Aso to submit the second extra budget during the current session and said his party would cooperate with the ruling camp in Diet deliberation if the government submitted the extra budget in the ongoing session. |
