MEXICO CITY -- A gang of drug hitmen is leaving funeral wreaths with death threats directed at local policemen in the northern Mexico city of Hermosillo.

A police investigator looks on to a crime scene where a man was shot to death in Tijuana, Mexico, Friday, Nov. 14, 2008. Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, is one of the world's busiest border crossings, and the scene of increasing violence, most of it related to drug trafficking. [Agencies]

State police say six of the wreaths were left on the city's streets, along with hand-lettered posters signed by the Gulf drug cartel.

One of the signs found on Monday reads "This is a message for the entire state police force, if you mess with us we are going to kill you and your entire family."

Northern Mexico has been hit by bloody drug turf battles and killings targeting police.

In the border city of Tijuana, police found three dead bodies on Monday and the decapitated bodies of two men wrapped in plastic bags in front of a taco restaurant on Sunday.
