According to the report, Thuraya has signed an agreement with a Saudi Arabia-based company I2 Mobile, one of the largest mobile distributors in the Middle East region, according to which I2 Mobile will sell and market Thuraya's phones through its distribution network across Egypt. With the partnership with I2 Mobile, Thuraya hoped to stimulate an increasing marketing and sales activity of its products among key sectors in the country such as regional travellers, oil and gas, NGOs, tourism and transport. Established in 1997, Thuraya launched its first satellite from the Pacific Ocean in October 2000. The company launched two more satellites in June 2003 and January 2008. The Abu Dhabi-based company, which has the world's smallest satellite telephone SO-2510, with a weight of 130 grams, currently provides mobile satellite services in more than 140 nations and regions across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia. |
