Updated: 2008-11-14 13:18 DHAKA -- An old car exhibition is being held in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka with the purpose of welcoming European Himalayan Rally and make more Bangladeshi people know the knowledge about how to collect old cars. Himalayan Rally consists of 6 old cars and 12 participants from Europe. The rally started from India on October 19, and went through Nepal, Bhutan, and arrived in Dhaka on Thursday. Habibur Rahman, chairman of Bangladesh Old Car Club, the organizer of the exhibition, said Friday that to collect the old cars is not popular in Bangladesh, so they want to make more people know about it through the exhibition. Rahman said Old Car Club was established in 1984, adding "we have 40 members and more than 200 old cars." Rahman has collected 50 old cars among them one brand made in 1908 is the oldest one ever found in Bangladesh. Mahmadul Faruq, a member of the club, has a collection of around 50 old cars. He said collecting old car is a time-consuming, money-consuming and energy-consuming business, but he is still in favor of that and often drives his old car on weekend when road is a bit empty. There are more than 10 old cars on the exhibition, the Austin 7 made in 1926 is the oldest among the exhibits. The exhibition was launched on Thursday and will end on Friday. |
