Updated: 2008-11-13 23:31 JAKARTA -- The militaries of Asia Pacific countries have agreed at a conference in Indonesia's island of Bali to jointly fight against international terrorism, Indonesian official news agency Antara reported. The conference, bringing together military commanders from 26 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, ended on Thursday. General Djoko Santoso, an Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander, said the conference participants also agreed to implement a common pattern and steps in efforts to overcome and deal with terrorist actions. "This was agreed because what one country has done so far is not always in line with what others did. In other words, different countries have so far applied different methods in dealing with terrorism," he said. The Indonesian general also said that the armed forces of the Asia Pacific region would always help each other and jointly take part in the fight against terrorism. According to Admiral Timothy J Keating, the commander of the U. S. Fleet in Asia Pacific, terrorism had become a global threat that needed to overcome by joint efforts. Therefore, he said that the United States was very much in agreement with what the conference participants had decided. |
